| Method of Training |

The method of training that is taught at Kasseburg Canine Training Center was
developed by the German Police School - Landespolizeischule fur
Diensthundfuhrer, 1981. The Director of PSP America, Ted Sexton,
brought the method we use today into the United States after he
attended the training course in Stuckenbrok, Germany. In 1985, PSP America
became ACLEOTC and a staff of six police canine officers and trainers from
throughout the United States were hired by ACLEOTC to train canines and handlers
for the US Department of State's Anti Terrorist Assistance Program. During this time period, the method of training developed and
taught through this facility was introduced to domestic and international law enforcement agencies
through handler and instructor courses. Upon completion of the State Department
contracts in 1991, ACLEOTC was sold to a civilian operation. All instructors returned
to various agencies to continue teaching this method of training at both a federal and
state level to law enforcement officers throughout the United States. The training staff
at Alabama Canine Law Enforcement Officers Training Center, who developed and taught the
PSP method of training throughout the world were: Director Ted Sexton, Chief Instructor
Matthew Devaney, Instructor Dewayne Burkhalter, Instructor Jimmy Thornton, Instructor Randy
Parker, Instructor Kyle Heyen and Instructor Pam Rogers. Without the initiative to improve law enforcement training, this method may never have been introduced. I feel that the instructors who developed this method to meet the high standards we teach to this day made a difference in law enforcement canine training forever. I am very happy to have been a part of this and will continue to carry on the training as it was intended. |
