About Us

We at Kasseburg Canine Training have over twenty seven years combined law enforcement experience. All staff members are prior law enforcement officers and canine trainers.

The beginning to a successful canine team is the initial selection of prospective canine candidates. All candidates must pass an extremely difficult selection test design to test the genetic drives of the dog. Dogs which pass, which is generally 10% then enter training. These canines then pass the prescribed course of training 98% of the time therefore eliminating loss of training time and manpower associated with other selection programs.

Kasseburg Canine Training does not offer a "buy a diploma" program. Handler school for a detector canine is five weeks long with two written examinations which a minimum score of 80% is required. The handler course for a dual purpose canine is eight weeks long with four written examinations which a minimum score of 80% is required. Additionally, weekly evaluations are conducted on the handler and if acceptable scores are not achieved, written notice will be sent to the department head. We believe that in depth education of prospective handlers increase the success of the program. Therefore, we do not offer two and three week handler courses. We provide training in various locations to simulate realistic situations encountered on the street by the team. The detector dogs must successfully locate twelve finds at three locations under numerous distractions. Patrol dogs must also be proficient in obedience, apprehension, area searches and evidence location. Above all, officer safety is always stressed throughout the course. Tactical training to include tactical obedience and building entries are conducted with emphasis on officer safety skills throughout. Unlike other vendors who offer minimal training courses, we feel that due to the departmental investment, the extensive training both handlers and dogs receive and learning problem solving skills better protects the success and investment of the handler and canine. There are no short cuts worthy of increased liability.

The dogs will be guaranteed to be free from genetic and pathological defects and be fully immunized at the time of delivery. A current radiograph of hips and elbows will also be given to the department at time of delivery. We also guarantee the dogs performance upon completion of the course provided the handler maintains proper training and documentation as taught by the course.
